About Fasting Blood Sugar Test

A blood sugar level test, also known as a glucose test, is a measurement of the amount of sugar (glucose) in your blood. It is a common test used to diagnose and monitor diabetes, a condition characterized by high blood sugar levels.
There are different types of blood sugar level tests, including fasting blood sugar test, post prandial glucose and oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) . The fasting blood sugar test measures your blood sugar levels after fasting for at least 8 hours. Post prandial sugar is measured 2 hours after food consumption. The oral glucose tolerance test involves drinking a sugary solution and measuring your blood sugar levels before and after having the solution.
Normal blood sugar levels typically range from 70 to 100 mg/dL in fasting condition and less than 140 mg/dL after meals. Levels above these ranges may indicate diabetes or pre-diabetes.
It is important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the appropriate blood sugar level test for your specific situation and to interpret the results accurately. Monitoring and managing blood sugar levels are crucial for individuals with diabetes to prevent complications such as heart disease, nerve damage, and kidney problems.
